Also undertakes disaster preparedness/management programmes for NGOs.
KHOJ - An Innovative Community Health Project.
It’s an innovative initiative to encourage community health projects
to be implemented at the grassroots level in the state of Orissa. The basic
objective of the project is to support grassroot NGOs in innovative community
health projects and helping to overcome financial constraint to run the project.
Reproductive and Child Health ( RCH )
A programme of integrated, people oriented, demand driven, client centred
in nature is run country wide by the Ministry of Health and Family welfare,
Government of India, New Delhi. OVHA acts as Mother NGO in the two districts
of the state. It is an advocacy project spearheaded to popularise the newer
concept of RCH. This new approach implies a paradigm shift where the National
Family Welfare Programme had under gone a change from segregated approach under
Family Planning and MCH to that of an integrated approach under RCH. Under this
programme OVHA supports grassroots level Voluntary Organisations with financial
assistance to help implement innovative RCH projects to help improve the Reproductive
health status of the state.
AYUSH
Similarly, it’s also an advocacy project of MOHFW, Government of India, New
Delhi to popularise the AYUSH in the community. It’s an IEC scheme where efforts
are being put to enhance the under standing level of people to adopt AYUSH
for preventive, promotive and curative services. Under this programme OVHA also
acts as Mother NGO and provides financial assistance to Voluntary Organisations
to popularise the concept of AYUSH and its best utilisation in the community.
With the objective to create awareness in the community about the efficacy
of AYUSH, its cost effectiveness and availability of drugs used for prevention
and treatment of common diseases which are readily available at the door step,
the Department of AYUSH decided to lunch an information, education & communication
package. It was decided to lunch the programme at the grassroots level through
close collaboration with non-governmental organisations. In this regard Ministry
of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, New Delhi identified some
of the Mother NGOs to help facilitate in implementing the IEC scheme at the
grassroots level. As such Orissa Voluntary Health Association was chosen to
act as Mother NGO in the state of Orissa.
Pre-natal Diagnostic Technique ( Misuse and Prevention
) Act 1994
Creating Awareness about the provision of Pre-natal Diagnostic Technique (
PCPNDT) Act 1994 is a project of MOHFW, GoI, New Delhi. It’s a project
to create awareness in the community about the female infanticide and sex determination
and its long term implications.
Malaria Prevention and Control
The disease “Malaria” is quite rampant in every nook and corner
of the state. To fight against the disease, apart from capacity building and
dissemination of information on Prevention and Control of the disease, OVHA
undertake various programmes on vector controlm study and research.
HIV/AIDS/ STDs
OVHA in close collaboration with Orissa State AIDS Control Society, Department
of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Orissa, Bhubaneswar manages to
run various programmes to prevent and control Hiv/AIDS in the state.
National Environment Awareness Programme
In collaboration with Department of Forest and Environment, Government of
Orissa OVHA organises awareness programmes on safe environment. Each year with
a specific theme under environment, this awareness programme is under taken
with the objective to make the environment safe for a health living.
